Sixteen students from the Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical Schools Culinary Arts program competed at the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) state conference. Four have learned that they have qualified for the national conference. The two-day, statewide event was held at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus on April 27th and 28th.
Of the 19 events that EFCTS students competed in, 16 resulted in a top-10 finish. Two students were crowned state champions. Emaleigh Arcand, a junior from Groveport Madison High School, placed first overall and landed a silver rating in the Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation category to become one of four national qualifiers and the only junior to accomplish the feat.
Senior Debora Kawogo (Reynoldsburg) was also hailed as a state champion in the garde manager category, which is a state-only competition.
Joining Arcand at the national conference will be seniors Javon McDonald (Pickerington North) and Amarra Haines (Whitehall Yearling), both qualifying with second place, silver finishes in the Interpersonal Communication category. Amanda-Clearcreek senior, Hallie Roberts, will advance to Nationals after placing as state runner-up in the Baking and Pastry category.

Three ECC juniors learned that they will also be representing the state or the region after being selected as FCCLA executive officers. As part of the statewide conference, it was announced that Emaleigh Arcand (Groveport Madison) will serve as the next FCCLA State Secretary. Ryan Traylor (Groveport Madison) and Annamarie Burchett (Teays Valley) have been selected as Region 3 Executive Officers.
The 2023 FCCLA National Leadership Conference will take place in Denver, Colorado from July 2 to July 6, where qualifiers will head to compete for a national ranking.
