11 ECC Students Qualify for BPA Nationals, Two Crowned State Champions

On March 9-10, 2023, students from Eastland Career Center competed in a variety of events at the Business Professionals of America (BPA) state conference, held at the Hyatt Regency Columbus. Eleven students qualified for the BPA national conference, including two students that were named state champions in their respective events.

From the Programming & Software Development program, junior Anmol Acharya (Reynoldsburg) took the state’s top honors in the C++ Programming category, as an individual. He also qualified for a second event at nationals as a member of one of two top-10 software engineer teams. Junior Ella Dean (Groveport Madison) from the Medical Office program took first place for her performance in the Basic Office Systems and Procedures event. 

Including Acharya and Greene, a total of 11 students from Eastland Career Center earned the opportunity to compete at the BPA national conference, including two state runners-up. Groveport Madison senior Hannah Greene (Medical Office) placed second in Fundamental Word Processing. Gahanna Lincoln senior Adam Offord (Programming & Software Design) took second place in C# Programming. 

Also from Programming and Software Design, Reynoldsburg junior Xander Mooney rounded out the top 5 in C++ Programming, marking one of two events he is now nationally qualified. Two teams of software engineers, totaling eight students, placed inside the nation’s top 10 in that category, punching their ticket to the national conference.

The BPA national competition will be held in Anaheim, Calif. on April 26-30, 2023.

Business Professionals of America (BPA) is the premier career and technical student organization for students pursuing careers in business management, information technology, finance, office administration, health administration, and other related career fields. With 45,000 members in over 1,800 chapters across 25 states and Puerto Rico, as well as an international presence in China, Haiti, and Peru, BPA is an organization that supports business and information technology educators by offering co-curricular exercises based on national standards.
