Five graduating seniors across the Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical Schools district were awarded $500 scholarships for displaying excellence in their respective programs and academic coursework. The scholarships were awarded by the Eastland Education Association (EEA) prior to last week’s Senior Recognition ceremonies.
Of the five graduating seniors that earned scholarships, two students came from Eastland Career Center, two were students at Fairfield Career Center, and the final scholarship recipient recently completed a satellite program at Gahanna Lincoln High School.
Kahlila Mitchell (Whitehall Yearling HS) from the STNA program at Eastland Career Center was nominated and chosen for her strong academics which resulted in a grade-point average greater than 4.0. Kahlila will pursue additional education at a college of her choosing in the fall and study nursing in order to become a neonatal nurse practitioner.
Laura Stephenson (Reynoldsburg- eSTEM) from the Criminal Justice program at ECC earned a scholarship following her work as a student ambassador, in addition to her strong lab and academic work that led to becoming a state championship at the SkillsUSA state competition. She will enroll at The Ohio State University to study mechanical engineering.
Two graduating seniors from Fairfield Career Center joined the Eastland duo as scholarship recipients. Ediomo-Obong Amasi (Whitehall Yearling HS) from Pre-Nursing and Pharmacy student Katarina Workman (Bloom-Carroll HS) became the second and third students from a medical-related program to earn the EEA Scholarship.
Representing the Eastland-Fairfield satellite programs is Amari Fisher, an Architecture & Construction Management student from Canal Winchester High School.
Students were nominated and selected for the scholarship by teachers, instructors and staff. Scholarship recipients were presented their awards during their respective Senior Recognition ceremonies, which marked the completion of their career-technical education program.
The Eastland Education Association is the association of teachers within the Eastland-Fairfield Career and Technical Schools. Since 2004, the EEA has provided scholarship money to graduating seniors who demonstrate maturity, exercise sound judgment, show skill in their career-technical program, and have an academic base to support lifelong learning. Donations to fund the scholarships are received from teachers, support personnel, administrators, and members of the public.
