Change can only happen by the hands of those seeking it. Eastland Career Center student Hunter Young is looking to make change and bring awareness to a cause that has personally impacted him by introducing a state bill that will, upon passage, recognize burn victims in the State of Ohio.

Hunter Young, a junior pre-engineering student from Teays Valley High School, has spent a good amount of his life on the race track. After a career of incident-free racing, a loose tube making contact with his sprint car’s fuel line led to a fire that landed Hunter in the burn victims unit of Nationwide Children’s Hospital for nearly four weeks.

Fast-forward one year nearly to the day, Hunter has recovered and is back in the race car. Now, he is using a class project assigned by his social studies teacher to create a week in which others that have been through a situation like his know that they are not alone.

Hunter was featured by his local newspaper and ABC6 On Your Side about his journey and how a class assignment has taken new life and found its way to the steps of the Ohio state capitol building.
