SkillsUSA serves as one of the largest career technical student organizations (CTSO) in the country, and Eastland Career Center has the privilege of serving as host to one of Ohio’s regional competition sites in mid-March. More than 90 students from both Eastland and Fairfield Career Centers competed and qualified to advance to the SkillsUSA state competition, which will be held May 3-4, 2022, primarily at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.
The SkillsUSA competitions began on March 7 with various off-site events being hosted around the Columbus area. Two students from the Automotive program at Eastland Career Center began the run of success stories by taking the top two spots in the Automotive Services Technology category. Seniors Jordan Mann (Gahanna Lincoln) and Evan Gallion (Pickerington Central) took first and second place, respectively, to qualify for states.
Eastland Career Center (ECC) has the opportunity to serve as a host site for the South Central Regional on March 14. Students from ECC and Fairfield Career Center (FCC) came together, along with a host of other nearby career technical schools, to compete in a wide variety of events that spanned all sides of the campus. The competition began at 8 a.m. and concluded in the early afternoon hours with great success from both its competitors and its operation.
A total of 98 students between ECC and FCC qualified for SkillsUSA Ohio state competition in their respective events, representing 21 different labs. At least one student from each of Eastland-Fairfield’s 16 associate school districts will be in attendance at the state competition.
