On February 25, 2022, students from Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical School’s Bioscience satellite program, housed at Lincoln High School in Gahanna, presented their senior capstone projects to a small group of industry leaders. A contest was held as part of the 10th Annual Senior Capstone Project Presentation in which the top three student presentations were awarded monetary scholarships.

Twenty-three students participated in the annual capstone project event. Thirteen individuals ranging from doctors, CEOs, and special project managers from the biology, science, and medical fields participated as judges in the competition. The top three projects were selected and those students were rewarded for their work with scholarship money, donated by the Gahanna Rotary. BioOhio donated an additional $1,000 to supplement those scholarships, allowing for $2,750 in scholarship funds to be distributed to the winners.

A capstone project is an independent experiment that the student carries out during class time at their high school, or while visiting a mentor at their facilities. They can work with a mentor, or independently. Students can be as creative as they wish within the parameters of working in a secondary school setting, and typically spend 3-6 months completing the project.
